Rishi Sunak again first choice for British PM: Tops with 115 votes in third round of voting, now only 4 people in race

Former UK Finance Minister Rishi Sunak is seen at the forefront of the race for prime minister. On Monday, Conservative MPs held a third round of voting to choose Britain's new prime minister. In this too, Sunak got the most votes.

Sunak got the most votes
In this voting, 115 MPs voted in favor of Sunak. While Penny Mordant got 82 votes, Liz Truss got 71 votes, Cami Bedenok got 58 and Tom Tujent got 31 votes. Tom was out of the race for prime minister for getting the fewest votes. Conservative Party MPs will continue to vote until two contenders are left. After two contenders are selected, the party members will choose the prime minister from among them.

Prior to the voting round, Penny Mordant was considered a favorite, but her votes have been reduced in this round. There is a gap of 11 votes between Liz Truss and Mordant. Truss is expected to get the lead in the next round.

Sunak does not want to participate in the debate
Sky News reported that a debate was planned between the prime ministerial contenders, but it was canceled after Sunak and Truss refused to participate in the debate. According to Sky News, Conservative MPs are concerned about the damage the debate will do to the party's image. This debate can also lead to a split within the party.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced he would step down as Conservative leader on 7 July following protests from his ministers. Johnson will remain Prime Minister of Britain until a new prime minister is announced. However, Britain's main opposition Labor Party is demanding the removal of Johnson from the post of Prime Minister as soon as possible.
